In the Buffalo Bills' Week 8 game against the Miami Dolphins, wide receiver Cole Beasley was in the zone. The veteran wideout led the Bills in receiving with 10 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown, helping the Bills to a 26-11 victory and season sweep of the Miami Dolphins. It was cause for Beasley to be celebrated for what he brings to the Bills -- something that hadn't happened on a certain social media platform, and something that Beasley is no longer concerning himself with.
In his postgame press conference, Beasley shared that he has had a "weight lifted" off of him since he decided to deactivate his Twitter account. On Twitter, Beasley had been subject to personal attacks and other vitriol thanks to his objections to the NFL's COVID vaccination policy as well as his questioning of the efficacy of COVID vaccines.
"It's good for me to get back to where I wanted to be, and it's not on there," Beasley said in a report by Syracuse.com. "The real world is out here and not there. Most people say things on there that you don't want to hear. ... I feel like I did the right thing and I'm going to stay off it."
Beasley had been vocal on Twitter in regards to COVID vaccine-related issues, including NFL COVID policies and the overall efficacy of vaccines in preventing illness from or transmission of COVID. A tipping point for Beasley came after a game against the Houston Texans, when he called out fans for booing him.
"Only place I get boo'd is at our home stadium. Then some of the same people want me to take pictures and sign autographs," he wrote in early October. "I thought bills fans were the best in the world? Where'd they go? If the vaccine works then why do vaxxed people need to be protected from unvaxxed?"
Since deactivating his Twitter account, Beasley has begun to thrive once again in Buffalo's offense. After seeing his role dwindle prior to mid-October, Beasley was targeted nine times in the Bills' loss to the Tennessee Titans and then earned 13 targets against Miami.
